Škarnitzl rode through to win gold in the mud and cold

The first race in the Prague MTB Cup got underway during the penultimate weekend in March. The greatest opponent facing the contestants was the extreme weather. On Saturday, temperatures were close to twenty while on Sunday, the mercury in the thermometer hardly made it up to five degrees. Rain alternated with snow and the course was reminiscent of a mud bath. But despite the bad weather, the whole Czech mountain bike peloton presented itself in Prague. Even in these conditions, Jan Škarnitzl from Sram Rubena Trek MTB left nobody in any doubt as to his superb form. He convincingly won gold on the scary-looking course with demanding technical sections pounded by constant rain and accompanied by strong gusts of wind. Rubena Charybdis Tubeless Supra tyres with dimensions of 29 x 2.00 designed precisely for this sort of soft terrain helped his performance.
Rubena chalked up another success with fourth place in the women’s category for Pavlína Šulcová from Ghost Rubena Racing Team, who battled through despite falling and hitting a tree.
Jan Nesvadba and Radim Kovář from Superior Rubena MTB Team took sixth and seventh place in the overall rankings.
