Škarnitzl takes away European bronze

The mountain biker Jan Škarnitzl from the Sram Rubena Trek team battled to win bronze at the European Cross Country Championships in the German town of Sankt Wendel. In the most prestigious elite category he was only beaten by the two times Olympic champion Julien Absalon from France and the Swiss Fabian Giger.
The twenty-seven-year-old Škarnitzl is only the second Czech rider ever to win a medal at the European Championships among the elite riders. Before him, only Jaroslav Kulhavý managed this, winning in 2010 (on Rubena tyres) and 2011.

Overall results for the elite men’s category:
1. Julien Absalon (FRA) 1:44:03
2. Fabian Giger (SUI) +0:15
3. Jan Škarnitzl (CZE) +0:39
